Sustainable Heritage Conservation
Wilma Bouwmeester ACR
I am an ICON Accredited conservator with a professional interest in the sustainable construction, management, and use of spaces holding collections. I specialise in the provision and management of museum environments and the analysis of environmental data.
Through previous preventive conservation roles at the Scottish Museums Council and the National Trust for Scotland, I helped museums adopt good preventive conservation practices, and laid the foundations for the NTS Collections Conservation Department, instilling the concepts of preventive conservation for both museums and historic houses.
In 2003, following an MSc in ‘Built Environment: Sustainable Heritage’ at University College London, I created Wilma Bouwmeester Collection Care, an independent consultancy in preventive conservation advice.
The business is now Sustainable Heritage Conservation, a consultancy working with others to promote the sustainable preservation of heritage interiors, sites, and collections.
Better Together
I recognise the strength and enjoyment of working together through partnerships.
The following professionals regularly contribute their expertise to my projects.
'I have worked with SHC for over 15 years as a freelance Buildings and Collections Conservator,
writing environmental reports and calibrating Hanwell equipment in many historic properties and museums across the UK.
I have a good working relationship with Wilma and my other colleagues from SHC, and have found the sharing of knowledge and support across the years invaluable. I have always enjoyed working with Wilma and SHC
and find it a positive company to be associated with. Wilma's values of sustainability and promoting environmental practices across the museum world are similar to my own, and her moral belief in supporting her subcontractors underpins the company.'
